OOTD - Plaid and Leggings

So for any of you that don't know OOTD stands for Outfit of the Day which is what I will be showing you today along with my makeup! I haven't actually done a fashion post yet on this blog and I would say that my style is very much comfortable but still cute.

Today I am just staying in around the house so I decided to pair my blue/grey plaid top with some leggings! The plaid top is from Select in the UK and I absolutely love it. I bought this a few years ago so I doubt they still have it in store but I'm sure you can find similar plaid tops around stores near you. It is a button up top with a sinch at the waist which is great for creating a more hour glass type figure. The top is long enough to wear with leggings and does cover your bottom so it is great!

Underneath the plaid top I am wearing an Aeropostale camisole in a light grey colour, which I usually wear just because I tend to get cold so layers are great to keep warm in the winter months. I wear these camisoles nearly every single day and I love them so you should all check them out!

For my leggings I think I also bought these from select and they are meant to look like jeans. So they are a light blue colour with back pockets and a button in the front. I personally love wearing leggings and find them super comfortable to wear everyday and they are a big fashion staple in the UK.

For shoes I am wearing my Converse shoes in black with glitter. I bought these in November and haven't really wanted to wear them out recently as it has been super rainy and wet here in England and I am a little paranoid about the glitter coming off because of the rain. I know that some people don't actually like the look of converse paired with leggings but I love them together.

Who doesn't love a good pyjama test shot before getting dressed :D!

For my makeup today I decided to do a natural eye with dark black liner and a red lip, classic I know! I actually never wear a red lip or even wear no eyeshadow and just eyeliner so this was a big change to my makeup routine and I really quite like it! For my face I used Loreal's True Match foundation in Ivory along with my MUA setting powder in Shade 1. This is my daily foundation routine and I use these 2 products every single day.

For my cheeks I used ELF All Over Color Stick in Lilac Petal which is a creamy blush, and I topped this with my powder blush in Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush in Live Pink. I layered a powder over the cream just so the colour lasts all day and I wanted to add a little shine to my cheeks so instead of a highlighter I find the Rimmel blush gives a nice glow to my cheeks.

For my eyes I used my MUA Intense Colour Eyeliner in Jet Black which I absolutely love and lined my upper lash line as well as my waterline on the bottom. I set this with a black shadow from my Sleek iDivine palette in Storm. Finally I curled my lashes and applied 2 coats of my MUA Lash Boom mascara, which I am really loving at the moment.

For my lips I decided to use a few different colours to create a somewhat ombre effect giving the outter lips a deeper colour than the center. To create this I used Rimmel Lasting Finish LIpstick in Temptation on the outer lips and used Maybelline Lipstick in Petal on the center of the lips. I also used a tiny bit of  Nyx Round Lipstick in Opal and rubbed my finger into the product and dabbed this into the center to give it a glow! I love this effect with the ombre lip and think it is a great change to just using a normal lipstick.

For my hair I didn't really do anything special and just put it in a high ponytail which is my favourite. I did use a little Tresseme hair spray to smooth down a few flyaway hairs near the actual ponytail but the rest is just my natural hair texture.

Makeup Academy (MUA) – Mascara in Shade 6 (blue)

My want for a blue mascara come around a year ago when I saw a YouTube video by MakeupByTiffanyD showing different ways to rock blue mascara. I had never thought about it before but she gave a tip to put on black mascara and only put blue mascara on the tips which would just give it a little bit of a different feeling and give a pop of colour up close. When I was browsing the MUA stand I noticed one of their Mascaras in Shade 6 which looks like a nice normal blue colour and it only costed £1 so I bought it. If you are from the US you can also purchase this off Amazon.

Now I had high hopes for this mascara and unfortunately it let me down quite a lot. The formulation for this mascara is very dry and it is very hard to actually get the product off of the wand and on to your lashes. The formula also contains fibres but I don’t find that this adds any volume or length to the lashes in the slightest.
When you apply the mascara you really have to wiggle the brush into your lash line and really push down on your lashes to get any kind of colour to show up. One coat will not be enough to get a true blue colour and I find that it normally takes around 3-4 coats before you can actually see any blue on your lashes.

Unfortunately the black colour of my lashes still shows through so although you get a tint of blue it has random hairs that are still black. I have also seen girls use blue mascara on the bottom lashes, but this mascara is very hard to apply on the lower lash line since you can’t really push your eyelashes into the brush hardly any colour appears. In the pictures below I had no eyeliner and no eyeshadow so you can really see how the mascara transfers onto the lashes. As you can see the blue is visible but there is still a lot of black showing.

3-4 Coats of MUA Mascara in Shade 6
3-4 Coats of MUA Mascara in Shade 6

I guess this mascara may be ok if you were using it for a Halloween Tutorial or really just wanted a natural but still somewhat blue mascara but if you’re looking for opaque blue colour this isn't the mascara for you. I really do find this mascara so difficult to apply that I actually never end up wearing it and it is just sitting in a bag of makeup items that I do not like or hardly ever use. I would suggest saving your money and purchasing pricier coloured mascara if you are really looking for the full effect. If any of you have tried a great coloured mascara let me know in the comments below. If you have never tried coloured mascara which is your favourite mascara in general?

Maybelline ColorSensational Cream Gloss

Now I really love makeup and would say that I am slightly addicted to it but one thing I cannot seem to like is lip glosses. I have tried quite a few and I find that many of them are sticky and when they dry it leaves a weird residue on your lips that I just can’t stand. On a daily basis I would say 99.99% of the time I am not wearing lip gloss and 80% of the time I do not wear any lipstick, yet I would say I have more lipsticks than any other product in my collection which really doesn't make sense.

I do actually own I think 4 lip glosses at the moment which are in my collection. They hardly ever get used and I am not sure where I actually received them but I believe they were a gift from Christmas. In these was the Maybelline ColorSensational cream gloss in Fabulous Pink. The other day I was wearing Nyx Round Lipstick in Indian Pink and I just felt like applying a gloss over the top (I am not sure why I decided this but I believe it could have been from reading other blog posts on lip glosses) and I think it has just changed my world around.

This lip gloss is not in the slightest bit sticky in any way and it does not feel wet or runny. The lip gloss honestly just feels creamy and that is it. Because I am so funny about textures on my lips this really surprised me and if any of you are the same way I think you should try this formulation because I honestly love it. As I said above I find most of my lipsticks to feel quite dry on my lips but when I apply this lip gloss over the top it makes it feel so smooth and creamy and removes the uncomfortable dry feeling. Because of this I have recently been getting a lot more wear out of my lipsticks and this lip gloss which I am very happy about.

The tint of this lip gloss is a light pink colour but I do not find that it messes with the colour that is underneath but instead just softens it a little. For example if I had on a bright red lipstick and applied this over the top it would still look red but it would tone it down just a little. The gloss is very sparkly and it is visible on the lips so if you like clear glosses with no shimmer this would not be one for you.

Maybelline ColorSensational Cream Gloss in Fabulous Pink applied over bare lips.
This lipstick retails for around £6-7 but I feel that it is definitely worth the price since this is the only lip gloss I have ever found that isn't sticky in the slightest. I definitely want to go out and purchase this lip gloss in more colours. I would really like you all to leave any recommendations of any lip glosses that you love that are not sticky in the comments below as I would love to give them a try.

Liebster Award

I was nominated for the Liebster Award a few days ago by Angels of Arcadia, Georgiana Teglas from sowhatsfashionabout, and yourlifeplaylist. I have seen this on a few blogs but for anyone who doesn't know it is an internet award where people nominate you to answer a few questions. Once you have answered them you nominate some more people from other blogs to answer some questions that you have come up with and so the circle goes. First I will answer the questions that my nominator has given me and then I will list who I would like to nominate and the questions I will give them. Thank you Angels of ArcadiaGeorgiana Teglas, and Your Life Playlist for nominating me and I really do appreciate it.

Questions from Angels of Arcadia:

·  What's your spirit animal?
I’m not really sure that I know but I took an online quiz at jerismithready and it says that I am an Otter. Otters are nurturing, playful, and easy going. You often put others’ needs before your own, offering what seems to be a bottomless well of compassion and care. Though your decisions are guided by your feelings at heart you’re pragmatic and self-possessed, making you the ideal head of a family or small business. Now I am not sure that this describes me very well but my boyfriend always makes fun of me saying I’m a deer. I am easy going and very laid back and love to be on my own rather than in a big crowd.

·  What's your favourite TV show?
Where do I start…? I am a TV fanatic and watch a ton of shows on a regular basis, and I don’t just watch shows randomly I follow them episode by episode. I cannot pick just one favourite but all of the shows that I currently watch are Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Pretty Little Liars, Ravenswood, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, the Mentalist and I really love cop shows like CSI the original and Law and Order: SVU. These are just a few but, as you can see I watch a lot of television shows ;) and I guess you could say I’m slightly addicted.

·  Take us through a typical weekday for you.
I’m not sure how to answer this question, I’m usually at home and I do normal things like laundry, ironing, cooking some food, doing work etc. I don’t feel that I have a very exciting life as it is just the ‘norm’.

·  Who's your favourite YouTuber?
Right now I absolutely love Essie Button who does beauty videos and randomly will do daily vlogs. Her story is strangely very similar to my story where she lived in North America, moved to England with her boyfriend and has been here for around the same time as I have. I just think she is so down to earth and just a really nice and genuine person. She also makes me want to buy everything she even mentions so watch out haha! Also I love CarahAmelie03 who also does beauty videos as well as daily vlogs. I religiously watch her daily vlogs every day and I love her family and she is also very down to earth and seems like a lovely person.

·  How do you spend your freetime (other than blogging)?
I really love watching television shows as you can see from the question above, so normally I will do ‘marathons’ and catch up on all of the seasons. Right now I am actually watching the Mentalist as I haven’t caught up to the newest season yet (I’m on season 3 currently) but I’m really enjoying it (Please no spoilers :D). I also like playing League of Legends obviously as I have created my whole blog ‘theme’ inspired by the League of Legends character Lulu.

·  What are you most looking forward to this year/what do you hope will happen this year?
I hope that I will be able to travel home this summer back to America and see my family and hopefully make a holiday out of it as well.

·  You have £20 to spend on anything you want, what do you buy?
This one is easy definitely makeup no doubt about it. Now what kind of makeup is pretty difficult but right now I’m eyeing the Sleek Palette in Vintage Romance as I love wearing purples and I also really want the Rimmel Apocalips in Luna as it looks gorgeous in all of the swatches I have seen. I have also seen a review from FleurDeForce on YouTube about the Topshop gloss inks and she said they are absolutely amazing and I am really itching to get my hand on some! So those 3 items I would probably buy right this second if I had £20 to spend. Also lets just mention that I would definitely get my money’s worth out of this deal and I would wait for the 3 for 2 sale at Boots/Superdrug and get more for my money :D.

·  What's your favourite way to exercise?
I’ll be honest here I don’t really exercise even though I probably should become more healthy. I do take my dogs on a walk but I don’t think that should count and I don’t really consider it my ‘exercise’ so I’m sorry if that doesn’t really answer the question.

·  Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day is when I have absolutely nothing to do and I can spend my day playing games. I am a very big home-body so I really prefer just staying in and having a relaxing day.

·  Do you have any pets?
This is going to be a little confusing as I actually have 4 pets in 3 different households. Basically I have a dog that I had when I lived in America who still lives with my mom. His name is Buddy and he is pretty old I would say around 5-6. He is a mix between a Springer Spaniel and a Beagle. I haven’t seen him in around 4 years now but he was my very first pet ever.

The next two dogs are the dogs my boyfriend’s grandparents have, which is where I lived when I first moved to England. Their names are Bella and Sky and they are honestly the cutest and most amazing dogs I have ever met in my life. They are also around 5-6 years old as well and they are some kind of Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix but we aren’t sure exactly what mix they are. They have so much character and they are completely opposite yet they are real sisters and come from the same litter.

The final dog is the one that I currently live with who is also named Bella (I know it’s a little confusing). She is only 5 months old and she is still obviously a puppy. She is a pure blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She is very clever and knows many tricks such as sit, lay, roll over, paw and beg. She is usually very good and doesn’t get into trouble a lot but recently she bit through my mouse lead which is why I haven’t blogged for the last few days.

I have also been nominated by Georgiana Teglas from Her questions are as follows:

1. Where`s your dream holiday?
2. Who`s your favourite designer?
I don't really have a favourite designer as I don't really buy designer clothing but if I had to choose a favourite store it would be New Look!

3. Favourite movie?
I don't think I can choose a favourite movie but if you want a funny answer when I was a kid I would come home every night after school and watch Cheaper by the Dozen for months on end!

4. Is there a song you listen to when you are feeling sad?
I really love listening to slow country songs when I'm feeling a little down, something like What hurts the most by Rascal Flats or She wouldn't be gone by Blake Shelton.

5. Favourite make-up brand?
I really love Revlon and Makeup Academy as a whole. I think Revlon does great lipsticks and nail varnishes as well as foundations and Makeup Academy has great cheap makeup!

6. What`s your dream job?
I am in the Computer Science field so I would say my dream job would be a programming job for a gaming company or a graphic designer.

7. Do you read any magazines? If yes, which ones do you enjoy?
I never read magazines and I cannot even remember the last time I have read one!

8. Do you have any goals set for this year?
I really hope to be consistant with my blog and I really would love to travel back to America and see my family.

9. Why did you start a blog?
Ever since I found the makeup community online I have always wanted to be apart of it but I was always a little nervous and had no self confidence to do so. Recenetly I mustered up the courage and honestly I'm really glad I did because I have made many new friends :)

10. If you could collaborate with any brand for your own collection, which one would you choose?
I would love to be apart of Revlon or L'Oreal as they are probably my favourite drugstore brands.

11. What`s your opinion on Valentine`s Day? Do you enjoy it or do you think it`s a waste of time?
I don't fall head over heals for Valentines day and my boyfriend and I don't really do anything special but we may watch a movie together and order a takeway or something and just spend valuable time together.

Questions from yourlifeplaylist

  • What is your favourite food?
My favourite food at the moment is Chicken Tikka Masala which I make and it tastes exactly like Indian takeaway it is so good. I actually had it today so yay!
  • Where did the inspiration for your blog name come from?
Bittersweet Shelby came from my faovurite League of Legends character Lulu. The Lulu character has a 'Bittersweet Lulu' skin and she is my favourite so I named my blog after her. She is also featured on my blogs banner.
  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I would love to have my own house in 10 years time with my boyfriend. I hope that I have a great programming job which I enjoy and just have a happy stress-free life.
  • If you could do anything this summer, what would you do?
I would love to travel back to America to see my family, but I am not sure if that will be possible or not. I would also love to go to Florida again for a holiday :).
  • What is the product at the top of your beauty wish list?
This is probably very weird but I actually have a list of some beauty products I am looking to get and the list is: Rimmel Apocalips in Luna, L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lpisticks, Sleek Palette in Vintage Romance/Bad Girl, Sleek Blush by 3 palette in Pink Lemonade, Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Cream in Shocking Coral and Topshop Gloss Inks. Now which would be my top from this list? Probably the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Cream in Shocking Coral because I have never been a fan of lip glosses but this is the first that I don't find sticky and therefore I would like a few more of them :)
  • Who is your style icon?
I don't think I really have a style icon and I am not a big fashion person in general. I would say my fashion is very laid back and I just like to be comfortable. I do love my converse shoes though!
  • What is your favourite film?
These are such tough questions but I don't think I have a favouite film although funny story when I was a kid I used to come home every single day from school and watch Cheaper by the Dozen. I watched it so many times I actually had most of the lines memorized and I believe this is the only movie I have ever watched that many times, as I usually just watch a movie once and then never again.
  • Tea or coffee?
Neither. I had never tried tea before I come to England and I gave it a try and I just think it taste really gross no offence. I would say though the only hot drink I like it Hot Chocolate. My faovurite brand is the Belgian Chocolate from the brand Options.
  • Who is your favourite blogger or YouTuber?
EssieButton and CarahAmelie03 hands down. Both of them are amazing and both of them do beauty videos and also have vlogging channels they are both just so down to earth and amazing women!
  • Favourite song at the moment?
Under Control by Calvin Harris has been one that I have quite liked listening to recently. I usually change music favourites everyday at least multiple times. I love listening to youtube playlists though and just seeing what comes up!

  • Favourite type of blog post to read/make?
I really like doing reviews as I love being very thorough. I personally am a very conscious buyer and thoroughly investigate a product before I ever buy it. Because of this I think that is why I love making these types of posts because I can really inform people how I feel about the product and what is its good and bad points so they can make up their own decisions!

  • 11 Random Facts:

    1. I cannot tread water and if someone threw me into the middle of the ocean I would end up drowning. Funny story but I remember in my gym class we had to tread water for 20 minutes and were graded on it, if you touched the side of the pool you would be deducted points. My friend Rachael who was a swimmer actually had to hold me up while she treaded water so I wouldn't get deducted points, Thanks Rachael!
    2. I have had problems with passing out since i was around 6, but since I have gotten older it has decreased a lot.
    3. I absolutley hate ironing and put off doing it as long as I can
    4. I have extremely odd sleep times and prefer being up at night times
    5. I will never buy anything online without a coupon code and will always review products thouroughly so i do not make the wrong choice
    6. I own 2 different sweatshirts and one of them I have had since i was probably 15 (i'm 21 currently) I mostly just steal all of my boyfriend sweatshirts
    7. I am studying computer science and I really love programming which probably sounds nerdy but i love it and find it very interesting
    8. Kind of going wtih the last one but my favourite program i have made was creating a sudoku game that can generate and solve 'easy' puzzles which was quite interesting
    9. I have extreme anxiety about cutting my hair and I only ever get it done maybe once or maximum twice a year. That being said I will change my hair extreme colours without thinking twice or doing a 'test' patch.
    10. I hardly ever get any sort of a tan. I am extremely pale and I usually only burn in the summer and never recieve a tan. I do however get many freckles on my face during the summer time.
    11. I am extremely weird about my food. I take forever to eat my meals, I cannot stand if two things are touching each other (curry touching rice etc) and will leave the peices that touch on my plate. I also eat things one at a time for example penne noodles or something. I can also eat one specific meal for every meal of the day for multiple days in a row. It is very strange.

My nominations for the Liebster Award are:

Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL - Mystic Violet

Ok so for the last few months I have been having a huge urge to dye my hair purple but I always decided against it simply because I was a little scared of how it would turn out. My ideal colour of purple hair would be a dark plum or grape colour where it looks dark overall but when the sunlight shines on it the hair would shine a darker purple. So today I decided to go to Boots and purchase the Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL in Mystic Violet. These hair dyes cost around £6 in your local Superdrug/Boots or drugstore but you can usually find them on sale or on a 3 for 2 deal.

Now as you can see on the box it does look like purple in the lighted part of the picture but the hair that is shaded looks very dark and almost black. Now before I show you my ‘before’ hair look, I thought I should share with you my hair history and why it is the colour it is. So about a year ago I decided to dye my hair bright red using the Live Color XXL in Real Red. This made a drastic change to my hair and it definitely was bright red for the whole year. Then about a month or 2 ago I decided to try to go back to my natural hair (which is a light brown) so to get rid of the red I tried to use Clairol Nice and Easy hair dye in Natural Light Golden Brown and absolutely nothing happened. Then I tried the Live Color XXL in Tempting Chocolate because I figured if the red took my hair from brown to bright red it must do the job well, which did make my hair darker but it did leave some red showing through once it was washed a few times. This is why in my before picture it is dark but with extremely light patches of red when the flash hit the red spots.

The Live Color XXL in Mystic Violet shows on the side of the box what the resulted hair should look like if your hair is (blonde, brown, or black) so I assumed that this would work perfectly even though my hair was pretty dark to start with. The resulting colours should look like this according to the box.

Once you open the box you are left with an instructions manual which contains gloves inside, a bottle of developer, the colorant and a bottle of conditioner for the after care.

So basically what you are meant to do is mix together the colorant and developer together and once they are mixed you slather it on your hair. Now I personally have my boyfriend dye my hair for me because with my longer hair it is very difficult to not make a mess or to get every spot on your head so I suggest having someone dye your hair for you. Once I had applied the hair dye I kept it on for 30 minutes to develop. I also suggest using an old towel to wrap around you when you are dyeing your hair so that you do not make a mess and ruin your clothing! I personally use 2 boxes to dye my whole head.

Once the 30 minutes was up I washed out the hair dye which was extremely messy and for some reason it was worse than the red hair dye I mentioned earlier. The water should run somewhat clear (I don’t think it should run fully clear as red hair dyes usually wash out in the shower pretty fast). I then dried my hair with a blow drier and finally got to see the finished product.

Now honestly I don’t know how I feel about it so far, my hair as I said earlier was a little red before so I am not sure if that counters out the purple a little and makes it more red. But basically my hair still looks very dark and almost dark brown, it does seem like the colorant made my hair darker but at my roots when I am standing under a light I can see the purple/red colour show through. Now I dyed this in the mid-afternoon / nearly night time so the lighting is not great which is why I believe it looks so dark. I did try to take a picture afterwards but this is definitely not as good of lighting as I had with my before picture, so tomorrow I plan on taking some better photographs in the light and see how it really turned out! So stay tuned for tomorrow’s update!

Bonus Picture: My boyfriend was playing with our puppy while I was getting the 'before' pictures and she was begging for my Revlon Lip Butter :) she obviously loves makeup too! A full review + lip swatches on them can be found here.

So today I woke up and for once we had great sunlight in England so I really got to see what my hair looked like in natural lighting. Basically it has a lot of red showing through (more than I had before) but overall it just looks very dark. The darker pieces do have a slight tinge to them of purple when you look at them under direct sunlight but it is very hard to notice and I don't think anyone would notice it unless you were specifically looking for it. Now on the box it said that even black hair would still come out with 'purple' hair using this hair dye, which many of the other Live XXL brand hair dyes suggest only to go up to light brown hair but I feel that this didn't really do that much. Now I am not sure if because I had bright red hair before it changed the color more red toned than 'purple' but it wasn't what I expected. Now I have had better luck with other colors within the Live XXL brand, specifically Real Red and Tempting Chocolate, but this color simply did not work that well for me. I will not give up on the Purple hair and will give it another attempt to see if it will come out the right color that I want it to be :). Update pictures are shown below - Sorry about the frizzy hair, I took this picture after I woke up :) also my glasses are poking through so don't mind that!

Primark Beauty - Nail Polish Remover Pads Review

On my last Primark haul a few months ago I decided to try something from the Primark beauty section. I didn't necessarily want to try a makeup item as I did not want to break out my skin or do any harm, so I decided to try out the Primark Beauty Nail Polish Remove Pads first. The pack that I bought contained 2 containers with 25 pads in each container, and the best part they only costed £1 together! Now I didn't exactly have much faith or hope in these products as I figured they would just be so-so, and nothing special as they only costed £1 but I was pleasantly surprised by how these worked.

When I opened the package for the first time I noticed that the nail polish remover pads were very thin. Almost the thinness of say a piece of paper, and I was a little sceptic. It didn't seem that these thin pads would remove any nail polish on my fingers, but when I tried it the pads do remove the nail polish left on your fingers pretty well actually. It does take a few swipes and a few seconds on each nail but for only 1-2 seconds per finger it is a great way to remove nail polish on the go or even just for convenience. I have never tried these remove pads on glitter nail polish though so I am not sure that these nail polish remove pads would work on that.

The pads do feel a little greasy and it does leave a residue on your fingers after you have wiped one on your nail polish. I find that if I have a paper towel or something to wipe my fingers on afterwards it removes the greasy residue and your fingers feel fine afterwards. The greasy residue does not linger on your fingers as long as you wipe them down.

Disclaimer: Sorry for the chipped nail polish, but that is exactly why I was removing them :)

Overall if you are looking for cheap nail polish remover pads that will do the job (at least with normal nail polish without glitter) these nail polish pads will do the job and save you money! These pads would be great when you are on the go and your nail polish chips and you want to remove your nail polish. I am very curious on how the other Primark Beauty products preform, so if any of you have tried any other products let me know!

Revlon Lip Butters - Review + Swatches

Every blogger has either heard about or owned one of the Revlon Lip Butters. These have received a lot of amazing reviews and they are much loved amongst the beauty community. If you have never tried these lip butters by Revlon they retail for around £7.99, which is not exactly cheap and is definitely on the higher side considering this is a drugstore makeup brand. These lip butters can be purchased from your local drug store or on Amazon. But are these Revlon lip butters worth the higher drugstore price?

Now many of you may wonder what exactly is a lip butter and how does this differ from a lipstick, lip gloss or lip balm? A lip butter is similar to a lip balm in that it is very moisturizing on the lips and feels very soothing. On top of this a lip butter usually has a sheer tint to them that is visible on the lips.

Now let’s hear about the Revlon lip butters in particular. These lip butters are in the Colorburst range and it offers a wide variety of shade selections including 13 different shades. These shades range all over the spectrum including nudes, orange, pink, red and dark plummy shades. This means that there is surely a colour that would suit everyone.  The packaging for these products look very similar to the Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks, but instead of the black casing they have a shade similar to the colour inside them. This makes it very easy to find which colour you want if you own multiple colours. The tops of the packaging are also clear so that you can see through to the actual lipstick shade which is great if you plan on storing these lipsticks upright.

As I said before lip butters usually have a sheer tint to them which is visible on the lips, but the lip butters by
Revlon are highly pigmented. I am not just talking about a darker sheer lipstick kind of pigmented; I’m talking about a lip butter that is nearly as pigmented as a normal lipstick would be! If you have drier lips and find that normal lipsticks feel very dry and uncomfortable on the lips, these would be great as they feel almost like a lip balm or gloss on the lips. This feels very moisturizing and comfortable on the lips and does not cause any irritation. Now some of you may know that I am not a big fan of the feeling of lip gloss but these lip butters feel smooth like a lip gloss without the sticky effect that many lip glosses have which I am not a fan of. I would also like to say that these do not replace your lip balm and will not give you long lasting effects to the lips, but they just do not feel drying to the lips. If you obviously have drier lips and are looking for something to fix them, this will not do that but it may feel more comfortable than a drying lipstick.

The staying power of these lip butters is actually very good and it will last on the lips with full pigmentation for around 3-4 hours without fading. This can obviously be shortened if you have been eating or drinking a lot during the time, but it is easily fixable by reapplying a little product. I also find that when this product starts to wear off, I feel that it almost stains my lips to a lighter colour of the lipstick I am wearing. For example I own one of the butters in Lolipop which is a dark pink/purple, and once it starts to fade it almost gives a dark pink tint to my lips even when the product has completely faded which I love.

These lip butters are honestly amazing and if you are looking for a moisturizing lipstick, this is a great alternative as you get the moisturizing effect but you still get the pigmentation that a lipstick would have. I own two of these colours and have basically told myself I am not allowed to get any more until I use up the two I have as I do not have the space to store more lipsticks, but I honestly would love to have the whole range as they are so great! Even though the price is a little higher than a different drugstore brand, I feel the price is definitely worth it and was not disappointed in the slightest.

Maybelline Eyestudio Quad Smoky Glam - Review / Eye Tutorial

Hello everyone! I have had the Maybelline Eyestudio Smoky Glam eyeshadow palette in Smoky Indigo for a long time and somehow it had gotten lost in my makeup collection. While looking through my collection the other day I found it and decided to create a review on the eyeshadows and tell you all what I think of it. This eyeshadow palette retails for around £4 and can be found at your local drugstore or on Amazon.

These palettes come with 4 eyeshadows that normally give you a highlight, a light, medium, and dark shades in one particular colour. This eyeshadow palette in particular comes with a white shimmery highlight, a light shimmery blue, a medium shimmery blue and a dark navy. As you can see from the picture of the palette each eyeshadow is numbered 1-4. What I love about these palettes is that on the back they contain a step-by-step instruction of how these colours can create an eyeshadow look by using the numbered eyeshadows.
I decided to create my eye look using these step-by-step instructions exactly how they are written on the back of the palette. I would also like to say that in the pictures below I have used Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk as a base on my left eye, and left my right eye bare, with no primer or base applied. I did this to show you the result if you use a base under the eyeshadows compared to if you just used the eyeshadows on their own.

Left - Eyeshadows applied over Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk         Right - Eyeshadow applied with no base or primer

First I applied the number 2 in the palette all over my lid. Next I applied number 3 in my crease and made sure to blend the edges very well to get rid of the harsh eyeshadow line. Next I used a small eyeliner brush and grabbed number 4 in the palette and smudged this on my lash line and bottom lash line, taking the place of using an eyeliner. Finally I used number 1 in the palette under my brow bone for a highlight. The instructions on the back do not say to add a highlight to your inner corner, but as I like this look I decided to add it anyways using the number 1 in the palette. To finish off the look I did not use an eyeliner on the upper lash line but did apply some to my waterline and tight line, using Maybelline’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black. I then curled my lashes and applied one coat of my Maybelline’s Scandaleyes mascara in Retro Glam.

Now I think these shadows are pretty pigmented without a base, but it doesn't last all day and it does look a little splotchy and uneven. If you do use these eyeshadows with a base however it looks amazing and the pigmentation is very good and the shadows do last all day. I myself never wear eyeshadows without a primer, but if you are a beginner at makeup you may not already have one so this allows you to see what it would look like without a base or primer added. The only complaint I have with these eyeshadows is that the dark navy colour marked number 4 is a little less pigmented than the others, and if you plan on using this as an eyeliner you really need to pack the colour on to get a dark line. If you don’t want a harsh eyeliner look you could of course use less product and it would create a very subtle definition to your lash line without looking too harsh.

The packaging for this product is great and the clasp is very strong so you don’t need to worry about this breaking open in your handbag if you wanted to bring it for touch-ups. The sponge tip applicator that comes with the eyeshadow palette contains a normal sponge applicator on one side but on the other side has a slightly more pointed end to it so that you can use it for the eyeliner process. I personally do not use this but I would assume it would be helpful for a beginner that wouldn't necessarily have makeup brushes available to use. Overall I think this palette is pretty good and would be quite helpful for beginners with makeup.

Sleek i-Divine Original Palette - Swatches + Review

Since I have been loving my Sleek palettes and using them quite frequently in my eyeshadow tutorials, I decided to give you a review of the i-Divine Original palette along with some swatches! This palette can be purchased within the UK at drugstores such as Superdrug or Boots, but if you live outside of the UK you can probably find this on Amazon. This palette retails for around £7.99 in the UK, but you can usually get these on a 3 for 2 sale at either Boots or Superdrug, which makes the price considerably less.

Sleek is a very popular brand in the UK and is known for their very pigmented products. I had always assumed that the palettes would be just like the pigmentation of MUA or other types of palettes that I had owned, but boy was I wrong. Even if you do not use a primer underneath, these eyeshadows are extremely pigmented and you only need a little bit. This is great as you are not scraping out the product just to get the colour to show up on your eyes. When you do apply a primer underneath it makes all of the eyeshadows pop and makes them much more vibrant than if you didn't use a primer/base.

Top row: L-R. The swatch on the left is without a base, on the right is with Nyx Jumbo Pencil - Milk underneath.
Bottom row: L-R. The swatch on the left is without a base, on the right is with Nyx Jumbo Pencil - Milk underneath.
As you can see in my swatches below I have swatched on the left the colour without a base, and on the right a swatch over the Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk, so you can really see the difference when a base is used. I feel that the base makes a bigger difference on the darker colours rather than on the lighter colours. The eyeshadows are not powdery and do not give you fallout under your eyes when you apply them. I have used this eyeshadow palette in my New Years Eve tutorial if you are interested in seeing a full eyeshadow look using these colours.

Overall this is just a great palette to own, especially if you love coloured eyeshadows! The pigmentation is fantastic and the price is reasonable for such high quality eyeshadows. If you already have cheaper eyeshadows in your collection and are contemplating whether or not to buy a Sleek palette, I would say go for it as you won't regret it and you won't look back!

Naked 3 (Rose Gold) Inspired - Romantic Eyeshadow Tutorial

Since the new Naked 3 palette has recently been launched, I decided to use this as inspiration and look through my eyeshadows to find some great rose gold/pink shades to work with! I do not own any of the Naked palettes by Urban Decay so instead I found some great shadows in my Sleek Storm palette. This palette is quite affordable and can be found at your local Superdrugfor around £8 or on Amazon and the shadows are gorgeous. I do believe these palettes are either not available or very hard to get in the US but if you can get your hands on them they are definitely worth the money! I will do a blog post on this palette with a full in-depth review, which will be coming very soon.

To start off I first applied my Nyx Jumbo Eyeshadow pencil in Milk all over my eyelids and even up into the crease. Make sure you blend this colour around the crease line so that it does not have a harsh end.

Next I applied the matte light brown shade marked #1 in the palette into my crease. This will act as a transition colour so that the crease colour we apply later will blend gorgeously into the skin.

Next I applied the shimmery champagne colour marked #2 in the palette on the inner 1/3 of my eyelids. This will create a more open look and make you look wide awake. This is a great tip if you didn't get much sleep the night before and need a little pick me up.

Next I applied a rose gold type of shade marked #3 in the palette and focused this on the outer 2/3 of my lid, making sure that I blend this into the champagne colour that is also on the lid. Make sure you spend a lot of time blending in the colours as we want this look to be very romantic and soft.

For my crease colour I decided to use a darker pink/red shade that is marked #4 in the palette. This shade does have shimmer but because we used the matte transition shade (#1) it will help blend in the colour a little more and look less shimmery. I used this all the way throughout my crease and really make sure to blend, blend, and blend on this step! We really want a soft romantic feel to the eyeshadow so make sure you give it enough time! Also make sure to blend a small amount of this shadow under your eye near your lash line.

Finished look if you stop at this step!

If you would like to darken the crease, adding a darker brown shade like #5 in the palette can be used on
the outer v. this will make the look appear more dark and smokey. This will give the look a very nice effect, but if you are going for an everyday look then you can obviously skip this step, as it is all personal preference!

Finished look if you stop at this step! (Dark Brown in Crease)

If you would like an even darker look you can add the tiniest bit of black over the dark brown in order to
    darken just the outer v.

Finished Look if you stop at this step! (Black in outer v)
Finally I used the shimmery champagne colour marked #2 in the palette again as an inner corner highlight. This will also make the eyes appear more open and awake but you can skip this step if you would prefer, it is all just personal preference.

To finish this look I applied my MUA Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner on the top lash line and kept my waterline bare. You can also use a nude or white eyeliner in the waterline if you like that look but I do not own any. Then I curled my lashes with a lash curler and applied the NYC City Curls mascara.
